Job Title: GIS and Data Analysis Intern
GIS and Data Analysis Intern Spring Summer 2015
Supervisor: Callie New
Description: Gather and analyze data relating to the urban design of streets throughout the region. Extensive field work is anticipated. Other duties will include assisting in cleaning, organizing and analyzing transportation, traffic, land use and demographic data for use in our forecasting models. These models include the regional Travel Demand Model and the Real Estate Market Model.
Timing: May – August 2015, with the potential to extend through December
Hours/week: 20-40
Wages/Salary: Yes
Qualifications: College student with interest and ability in urban planning, geography and/ or demographics. Knowledge of urban design and ability to contribute to/develop metrics that relate to walk-ability and active transportation. Coursework/experience in GIS is required. Experience/ coursework in statistics, economics and programming is a plus.

Position Summary:
This position is for a mid-level engineer in the civil engineering field. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on self-starter who thrives in a fast paced environment and possesses the initiative, desire and leadership to continuously improve.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
• Have a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
• Is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Utah.
• Have the ability to understand engineering project details, with the ability to communicate those details to individuals inside and outside of the firm both in person and in writing.
Preferred Skills
• Proficiency in Microstation and Power Inroads and other Bentley design software.
• Knowledge of AutoCad Civil 3D a plus.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Creates construction plan sets and exhibits using CAD software.
• Performs basic design tasks.
• Prepares and edits portions of project documents, specifications and special provisions.
• Inspects construction activities.
• Applies prescribed techniques and procedures in accordance with established criteria to perform assigned tasks.
• Performs routine technical work which does not require previous experience.
• Acquires an understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
• Collects data and gathers information or documents.
• Performs standard computations or analysis.
• Exercises limited judgment on details of work and in application of standard methods for conventional work.
• Assists in preparation of permit applications.
• Assigns tasks to and coordinates with technicians or administrative staff.
• Collaboratively uses judgment to determine adaptations in methods for non-routine aspects of assignments.
• Works on small projects or portions of larger projects.
• Performs research and investigations.
• Assists in determining schedule requirements.

The Active Transportation Planner will be an integral part of the WFRC Long Range Planning Group, just as active transportation – non-motorized bicycle and pedestrian transportation – has become an integral part of our region’s transportation plans. Under supervision, this position will have the primary responsibility for short-term and long-range planning, development, coordination and assisting in the implementation of active transportation projects. The Active Transportation Planner will strengthen partnerships with local jurisdictions, regional partners, community-based organizations and the private sector to promote growing interest and investment in active transportation. The position will also perform a variety of professional and technical duties as needed to assist in the development and maintenance of long-range regional transportation plans and programs.
