The Wasatch Front Regional Council (WFRC) prepares transportation plans and programs as the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Salt Lake and Ogden-Layton Urbanized Areas. The WFRC has the following internship position available for the winter-spring 2017.

Job Title: GIS and Data Analysis Intern
Supervisor: Matthew Silski

Description: Gather and analyze data relating to active transportation, including bicycle and pedestrian counts and sidewalk inventory. Assist in creating maps, both printed and online. Other duties may include cleaning, organizing and analyzing transportation, traffic, land use, and demographic data for use in our forecasting models. These models include the regional Travel Demand Model and the Real Estate Market Model.

Timing: January – June, 2017
Hours/week: 20
Wages/Salary: Yes

Qualifications: College student with interest and ability in urban planning, geography and/ or demographics. Coursework/ experience in GIS is required. Experience/ coursework in statistics, economics and programming is a plus.

The Wasatch Front Regional Council (WFRC) is the region’s designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Salt Lake and Ogden-Layton Urbanized Areas and the Economic Development District (EDD) for Davis, Morgan, Salt Lake, Tooele, and Weber Counties. The WFRC has the following internship position available for the winter-spring 2017.

Job Title: Regional Economic Development Intern

Supervisor: LaNiece Davenport Description: The regional economic development intern will support the Wasatch Front Economic Development District (WFEDD). Responsibilities of this position include gathering, analyzing, and presenting data in order to update a regional economic development planning strategy; translating complex data so that it is easily understood and presenting it in a document or website; working with local economic development professionals to ensure participation and awareness of the WFEDD as well as working with local communities to assist in planning, developing, and marketing local and regional economic development activities. Competitive candidates will be detail-oriented critical thinkers. They will also possess topnotch research, data gathering, and analysis skills as well as effective writing, design, editing, and communication skills. Candidates must also have the ability to work under deadlines.

Timing: January – June, 2017

Qualifications: Undergraduate with senior status or graduate student in planning, economics and business, public administration, or related field. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required. Proficiency in GIS, graphics, and website design a plus.
