The Wasatch Front Regional Council (WFRC) prepares transportation plans and programs as the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Salt Lake City-West Valley City and Ogden-Layton Urbanized Areas. WFRC builds consensus and enhances quality of life by developing and implementing visions and plans for a well-functioning multi-modal transportation system, livable communities, a strong economy, and a healthy environment. In an effort to further WFRC’s mission, the following internship position is available for fall 2017.

Job Title: GIS and Data Analysis

Intern Supervisor: Matthew Silski

Description: Gather, analyze, and maintain geographic data relating to transportation and land use in the Wasatch Front. Assist in the creation of printed maps using ESRI ArcGIS software and online maps using ArcGIS Online. Provide technical GIS support to the development of the Regional Transportation Plan and Wasatch Choice 2050 vision. Other duties may include cleaning, organizing, and analyzing active transportation, green infrastructure, traffic, and demographic data for use in WFRC planning processes.

Time Frame: September–December 2017, with a possible extension

Hours/week: 20

Wages/Salary: Yes

Qualifications: College student completing coursework in geography, urban planning, or related fields. Coursework/experience in GIS is required. Experience/coursework in programming, statistics, and/or economics is a plus. Preference may be given to individuals satisfying college internship requirements
